What do lasagna layers and neural networks have in common? More than you think.
In this refreshingly original guide, Dr. John Giordani serves up machine learning concepts with a generous helping of Italian cooking wisdom. From al dente algorithms to the art of data preparation (yes, it's a lot like mise en place), he transforms intimidating technical topics into digestible, even delicious, insights.
Whether you're a curious beginner wondering what all the AI buzz is about, a professional looking to understand machine learning without the jargon, or simply someone who appreciates a good metaphor with their marinara, this book offers something satisfying. Each chapter pairs fundamental AI concepts, neural networks, model training, feature selection, and ethical considerations with culinary experiences that make them click.
You'll learn why overfitting is like over-seasoning, how ensemble methods work like a well-balanced meal, and why curiosity is the secret ingredient in both domains. Along the way, Giordani weaves in humor, practical wisdom, and genuine insights from his work in technology risk management and information security.
No PhD in computer science required. No professional kitchen either. Just bring your appetite for learning and a willingness to see the remarkable connections between two seemingly different worlds.
After all, whether you're training a model or perfecting your ragu, the fundamentals remain the same: start with quality ingredients, follow sound principles, taste as you go, and never stop experimenting.
This book explores the ever-evolving relationship between man and machine. Along the way, Dr. Giordani offers a lighthearted yet profound perspective on the nature of competition in the AI era, uncovering what it truly means to "win" in a world increasingly shaped by intelligent systems. Packed with laugh-out-loud anecdotes, thought-provoking scenarios, and practical takeaways.
